Hesse!* Welcome to Seminole Band! As one of the band directors at Seminole High School, I can tell you that high school band is more than just a place to make great music. It is also a place to make great memories. Between rehearsals and games in the fall, concerts and band trips in the spring, Seminole Band provides one of the best educational experiences in high school.
This is a very exciting time for the band. In February 2010 our Jazz Chiefs performed in the Journey Thru Jazz concert, where they played with local professional musicians. In March we proudly welcomed Funairi High School from Hiroshima, Japan. It was our privilege to provide host families for the 41 visiting students and offer them a taste of American hospitality. Our joint friendship concert was spectacular, and we look forward to a continued relationship with our friends from the City of Peace.
Always looking to provide enriching experiences for our students, Seminole Band will be going to London in December. We have been invited to participate in the Lord Mayor's Parade through the streets of downtown London on New Year's Day 2011. This parade is televised internationally and is attended by millions of people. We have welcomed several representatives of the parade to the Seminole campus: the parade founder and executive director Robert Bone, Band representative Jonathan Whaley and Duncan Sandys - current Lord Mayor of Westminster (and great grandson of Sir Winston Churchill.) During the visit to London, our students will tour local sites such as Oxford and Stratford upon Avon, taste local food (fish and chips!) and bring home memories of a lifetime.
In addition to these special events, Seminole High School has more musical opportunities than any other school in Seminole County. We have three concert bands and the Jazz Chiefs. We offer general music theory, A.P. music theory, I.B. music theory, show choirs and a full orchestra program. Every fall, "The Pride of the Tribe" Marching Band is a force to be reckoned with. Comprised of the band and the award-winning Dazzler dance teams, the Pride of the Tribe has 275 members and is one of the largest high school marching bands in the state of Florida. Go Noles!
Seminole also has the newest music building in the county, providing our students with a state-of-the-art Performing Arts Center to showcase their talents. Our band parent association is the largest parent group on campus, and provides lots of ways for parents to support their musicians. The school has chosen a band parent as Volunteer of the Year three out of the last four years! Our goal is quite simple, give our students the best we can.
Please explore this website for complete information about our music program, upcoming events and photos/videos of us in action.
